Cheboygan City Parks

Take a few minutes to rest, relax, or meet up with family and friends in one of Cheboygan’s city parks.  Listen to the river flowing by, reflect on an art piece, or let the kids have fun on the playground just minutes away from anywhere in town. 

Get away from it all, while being right in the middle of it!

Galbraith Park

Located at the corner of Fourth and North “F” Street, serving as the neighborhood park to the northcentral section of the City of Cheboygan. Galbraith Park is .8 acres featuring playground equipment and open space. Parking on street only.

James Felix Merchant Neighborhood Park

Located on Eastern Avenue, serving as a neighborhood park to the residential northeast section of the City of Cheboygan.  Approximately one acre in size, the park features a baseball field, picnic facilities, and playground equipment.  Parking is limited to a small grassy area.

Joseph Doyle Recreation Area

Located at the north end of the City of Cheboygan with expansive views of Lake Huron and the Mackinaw Bridge.  The area includes “Gordon Turner Park”, “Captain Gordon Hall” soccer fields, Cheboygan Crib Lighthouse, Cheboygan County Marina with a boat launch and fish cleaning station.

  • Gordon Turner Park serves the City of Cheboygan, Cheboygan County, and visitors to the area. The park is 5.3 acres with an adjacent boardwalk and cattail marsh encompassing approximately 15 acres.  The park attracts residents and tourists visiting the Cheboygan Crib Lighthouse and enjoy amenities including a fishing pier, bathing beach, picnic facilities, boardwalk and observation deck, volleyball nets and “Project Playland” playground with access to public restrooms.
  • Captain Gordon Hall soccer fields provide 3 full-size fields.
  • The Cheboygan County Marina is managed by the Cheboygan County Harbor Master through the DNR. The marina provides access to Cheboygan’s most unique attraction – the 40 mile “Inland Waterway”.  Boat slip rental, restroom facilities, and bike rental are available.  Downtown Cheboygan is within walking distance.

The Joseph Doyle Recreation Area has no handicap parking spaces and no ADA accessible playground equipment.

The lookout is ramped with a 6-foot-wide accessible path to the area.  There is a path through the picnic area with ramping.

Kiwanis Park

Located on Mackinaw Avenue, serving as a neighborhood park to the northwest section of the City of Cheboygan. Kiwanis Park is approximately 2.8 acres in size featuring a fenced play area with new playground equipment. Paved parking is accessible with designated spaces available. The park features accessible playground equipment and rubberized ground cover.

Major City Park

Major City Park serves the City of Cheboygan, residents of Cheboygan County, and visitors to the area.  The park is 20 acres with approximately ½ mile of Cheboygan River frontage.  The park includes:

  • Pete Kendziorski Recreation Center
  • Cantile Ice Pavilion
  • Outdoor skate park
  • Bump track
  • Batting cages
  • Basketball courts
  • Fields for Little League baseball and softball
  • Fields for adult recreational baseball and softball
  • Playground
  • Children’s Trail with lending library, checkers table, story panels

The playground has handicapped parking paths to playground and accessible equipment. The ball fields are not accessibility designed.

Ottawa Art Park

Located on the corner of Main Street and State Street in downtown Cheboygan.  Ottawa Art Park is a showcase for public art created by local amateur community members and regional professional artists.

Street parking is available.

Washington Park

 Located on Main Street in downtown Cheboygan.  The park is home to the Cheboygan Chamber of Commerce and has a gazebo, benches, bike racks, and restrooms.  A pedestrian bridge is located on the east side of the park and crosses the Cheboygan River connecting the park to Major City Park.

Street parking is available.

Water Street Park

Located in downtown Cheboygan on the west bank of the Cheboygan River.  Serves as a park for downtown residents and visitors.  The park is approximately 2.1 acres and features boat mooring, public access fishing, public restrooms, and free public parking.  Handicapped parking spots and curbing in most areas including dock.
